Road improvements over recent years have helped to make our area more accessible. The A30, our main artery, flows quite easily off the end of the M5 motorway via Okehampton and Launceston bypasses.
The road now takes you across Bodmin Moor. A long stretch of dual carriageway extends south of Bodmin, eventually bringing you to a roundabout, which marks the end of the Bodmin bypass. Continue along the A30 (signposted to Redruth) for another three miles, until you see a signpost to Padstow, but DO NOT take this turning, as this road has numerous sharp bends and for much of its length is not wide enough for two vehicles to pass in opposite directions. A quick and easier route is to continue under the railway bridge and along the A30 for another half mile, when you see a turning on the right signposted to St. Columb. Follow this road until you come to a roundabout and then turn right, signposted Wadebridge, when you will find yourself at the St Columb bypass. Turn left at the next roundabout, which is signposted to Padstow (B3274 / A389).
Alternatively you can either take the route via Plymouth over the Tamar Bridge into Cornwall using the A38, or take the Bodmin to Wadebridge road skirting around the town on the Wadebridge bypass.
By train
Our nearest railway station is at Bodmin Parkway on the main Plymouth to Penzance line, after which the journey must be completed by road. Western National operate a bus service to Padstow, their timetable being run in conjunction with British Rail. Buses for Padstow meet certain trains and usually wait ten minutes for those running late. Please ensure you consult the bus timetable.
By coach
National Express operate services all over Britain and an ingenious web of interlinking change terminals bringing passengers into Cornwall via Exeter. Coaches run into Wadebridge every day throughout the year, and from there Padstow is only a short bus or taxi ride away.
By plane
The nearest airport is at Newquay and it accepts several scheduled flights during the holiday season. Padstow is only a taxi ride away from the airport.
How to find Althea Library:
As you approach Padstow on the A389, avoid the first turning to 'Town and docks' (and one-way system). Continue past the large car park on the right, then take the next right (signposted Fentonluna). Proceed past Prideaux Place on the left. The entrance to the drive leading to Althea Library is on the left, just past the next junction. Go slowly past Prideaux Place as it is easy to miss our entrance. Look for 64 Church Street, the driveway is next to it.
